Generally speaking, annuals are plants which die within one growing season. They germinate from a seed, then blossom and finally drop seeds before dying back. Although they must be replanted every year, annuals are typically more vibrant and colourful than perennials and also have a longer bloom period – from spring to just before the first fall frost.
Perennials are plants that live for two years or longer. Perennial plants will die back in the fall or winter, but will return in the spring from their rootstock or other overwintering structure.
